Stephen Sengebush was born in California in 1987, but grew up in the desert foothills of Albuquerque, New Mexico. From an early age he learned a love of landscape painting from his grandfather, watercolor painter Marcus Pratt, and was further mentored by painter Dick Wimberly and pastellist Frederick Miller.

He studied painting and ceramics at the University of New Mexico, before moving to western Massachusetts, where he now specializes in plein air and contemporary impressionist painting.

He can usually be found in the woods at early morning, capturing the interplay of light and shadow where sun filters down into New England's many brooks and cascades.
